Something’s happening here, but you don’t know what it is, do you Mr. Brown?

– Bob Dylan

Yes, something is happening here. That IT happened and the speed with which IT happened are still creating ripples of insecurity, anxiety, denial and disbelief amongst SEC-philes, but make no mistake – IT happened Mr. Brown.

“Something’s happening here but you don’t know what it is, do you Mr. SEC?”

If you’re currently living below the Mason-Dixon line and seeking the best conference in college football – look up.

Just a couple of years removed from being the punchline for any joke about college football ineptness, the Big Ten closed out the 2014 season as the best conference in the nation.

And sorry Johnny Reb, but they kick-off the 2015 campaign as king of the castle as well (and this has nothing to do with the Harbaugh-circus rolling into Ann Arbour).

Earlier in the week I posted thoughts on the SEC Season Win Totals. With 5Dimes posting their Big Ten Season Win Totals as well, I’ve shifted my attention up North.

Big Ten

Illinois: 3.5 (over -140, under +100)

Indiana: 6 (over +140, under -180)

Iowa: 7.5 (over -115, under -125)

Maryland: 4.5 (over -120, under -120)

Michigan: 7.5 (over -140, under +100)

Michigan State: 9.5 (over -140, under +100)

Minnesota: 5.5 (over -150, under +110)

Nebraska: 8 (over -120, under -120)

Northwestern: 6.5 (over +110, under -150)

Ohio State: 11 (over +100, under -140)

Penn State: 7.5 (over -135, under +105)

Purdue: 4 (over -145, under +105)

Rutgers: 5 (over -145, under +105)

Wisconsin: 10 (over +160, under -210)

I really like Michigan State to get to at least 10 wins, and quite realistically see them booking 11 this season, but I can’t lay the -155 to bet them over 9.5.

I’ll be breaking down each of the teams over the next few weeks, but as of early June, I do have one Big Ten Season Win Totals I like.

Northwestern Over 6.5 (+110)

After back-to-back seasons on the sidelines come bowl time, Pat Fitzgerald has the foundation to get back into the post-season mix. Sure, key pieces are gone, but he does welcome back a healthy number of quality starters from last year.

The defense will make this team go, as they boast talent and experience, particularly the secondary. Fitzgerald has to get the offense to step up, but I do think the running game can pace them, taking some stress off a passing game that is a question mark, but has the chance of being better than competent.

They don’t have to face OSU or MSU in the regular season (bonus!) and the way the schedule unfolds, I see them getting to seven wins a few different ways, which gives us some leeway.

I’m looking for a bounceback campaign for the Wildcats in 2015-06-07

Good luck.
