Manning deal with Denver shuffles deck on NFL Futures

  • by

Peyton Manning agreed to a five-year, $96 million contract with the Denver Broncos today and it sent a flurry of traffic to sportsbooks, forcing oddsmakers to rethink the lines on certain NFL futures

Manning will get $18 million guaranteed this season and could make $20 million in 2013

Peyton Manning missed the 2011 season but he passed all the physical tests and by Monday, the wait was over: No. 18’s new home for 2012 is at the Mile High City

Odds for Denver winning the Super Bowl next season range from +1250 at up to +1800 but whatever price NFL futures bettors are able to find today, it’s a fraction of where it was when Tim Tebow was in line to start.

New England (+650), Houston (+1100) and Baltimore (+1600) are still ranked ahead of Denver in the list of AFC favorites to win the Super Bowl and the Broncos are set to meet all three of those foes in this year’s regular season.

The Broncos will also see New Orleans (+900), Pittsburgh (+2000) and Atlanta (+2500) and NFL odds for all six of those teams held firm this week as bettors loaded up on Bronco futures.

DENVER SCHEDULE – 2012
In all, the Broncos will face seven playoff teams from 2011 during this year’s campaign.

Home: Kansas City Chiefs, Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, Houston Texans, New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Away: Kansas City Chiefs, Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers, Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers

SEASON WIN TOTAL
Several online sportsbooks have taken down their projected win totals during free agency and one book is offering odds on the exact number of wins Denver will earn in 2012.

0 Wins – 50/1
1-2 Wins – 20/1
15-16 Wins – 20/1
3-5 Wins – 7/1
12-14 Wins – 3/1
6-8 Wins – 5/2
9-11 Wins – 5/4

Denver finished with an 8-8 straight-up record in three of the past four years and their most recent double-digit win season was in 2005, when they won the AFC West (13-3 SU)

The Broncos average number of wins in the past decade is 8.6 per season and Peyton Manning’s average number since joining the league in 1998 is 10.85. We will probably see Denver resurface with a win total in the 10.5 range

TEBOW TRACKER
John Elway made it fairly clear Tuesday that the franchise would look to move Tim Tebow and the next step for Tebowmania is finding a franchise ready to take on a big risk for an average QB. Odds for where Tim Tebow will play his next regular season game favor Jacksonville (3/2) and the Broncos are ranked surprisingly high on the list.

Jaguars 3/2
Packers 3/1
Broncos 4/1
Jets 5/1
Patriots 7/1
Dolphins 9/1
