View Full Version : Horse wagering question

I've been betting horses for only about a year and a half now, and do enjoy it more than any other sport or even a trip to the casino. I do still consider myself somewhat of a rookie when it comes to wagering. From day one, I've played mostly across the board wagers, with very few exactas. Overall in general, I play very few exotics, with that said playing only one horse often means wagering quite a bit on a race. I've had some incredible days at the track, but I've also had those days when it seems none of my horses even want to hit the board, which means too many trips to the ATM. In your guys opinion, what is the best way to bet the ponies? Any answers or input are appreciated. Thanks in advance

I cannot give percentages but I like the wp bet. I see rvt (I apologize if wrong) likes the $4 win $8place bet. I kind of like this idea as well. This is on a semi favourite but the "real" players use the ratio of 137 for a longshot. i.e. $2 win, $6 place and $14 show. You should win money if your horse is third. Good Luck and above all enjoy these athletes, whether you win or lose, as they are there solely for our pleasure. Also keep bumpng this up as there are far better bettors than myself to offer ideas.

All depends on your goals
I try to aggresively make money;therefore I don't wp bets and the 1-3-7 system.
I play win-exactas-tris-pick3 and the pick6(especially like the 1.4 mil carryover at Santa Anita on Wed.)
Different styles-no right or wrong
frankly I make more on pucks and CBB
try exactas some-geometric prices are ,for me, needed as I can't pick that many cold winners
have fun

I'm a big fan of the pick three and pick four wager. The track take=out is only subtracted once, thus making it a better bet, than say a straight parlay. This type of bet is most effective if you believe there is a vulnerable favorite in one or any or all legs you are playing. With so much "favorite money" out of the equation, there can be some enormous payouts for relatively low investments. Good luck.
