Week 1 NFL Odds, Schedule

The NFL announced its Week 1, 2013 schedule this week and we look at some of the top matchups along with Week 1 betting lines against the spread

Baltimore will become the first Super Bowl champ since 2003 to open its reigning season on the road

Along the way to become Super Bowl champs in February, 2013, the Baltimore Ravens were forced to endure a lot of hardship earning respect around the league. Some have now converted, some never will but with the new NFL schedule released Thursday it appears even the home town baseball team won’t give the Ravens ‘props’.

Baltimore is opening the 2013 NFL season in Denver, ending a nine-year run that saw the defending champ kickoff the season with a primetime, Thursday night contest in front of adoring home fans.

The home teams had a sparkling 8-0 record straight-up in those contests before New York’s loss the Cowboys in 2012, so maybe Baltimore is not all that concerned about facing Peyton Manning in the Mile High City. Perhaps the more pressing concern for bettors is that Denver has been touted as a 7-point favorite by early NFL odds projections and since 1989, these Week 1 faves of a touchdown or more are 32-9 SU with a 20-21 record against the number.

Totals have not yet been released and with the game being held in such an unstable climate, maybe they won’t be for some time on this game but here’s a tidbit to stash away:

– Week 1 NFL home favorites is 7-points or more have produced 28 overs and 13 unders since 1989 (avg total 42.5)

Since realignment in 2002, this group have hit the high bar 14 of 19 times (74-percent) and while there are some bargain hunters forcing books to reduce their odds to 6.5 with overnight betting, you get the feeling a Broncos team with revenge on their minds will start to attract public money as the summer wears along.
