Week 2 CFL Picks: Stampeders at Argonauts

The Toronto Argonauts will have their work cut out for them when they welcome the high-flying Calgary Stampeders to town Saturday afternoon

Calgary’s offense produced 465 yards in its season opener, improving to 10-2-1 ATS in their past 13 games as a favorite

Pinnacle CFL Odds: Stampeders -3, Over/Under 50.5

The Stampeders opened the season with an impressive 38-10 victory over the Montreal Alouettes, dominating the game on both sides of the ball. QB Drew Tate threw for 299 yards and left little doubt he has what it takes to lead this team in the post-Henry Burris era.

RB John Cornish added 89 yards on the ground with two majors, earning top Canadian honors as the West completed their Week 1 sweep over Eastern foes. Sports betting sites opened Calgary as a 5-point favorite for Week 2 but heavy Argos betting chiseled this line down by Thursday and the Stamps are 13-3 ATS their past 16 games with a line of three points or less.

Toronto struggled in a 19-15 road loss at Edmonton and it won’t get any easier for Ricky Ray against a Stampeders defense that held Anthony Calvillo to just 174 yards with two interceptions. Ray completed 29 of 39 pass attempts for 298 yards but his offense looked out of rhythm. Toronto led all teams with 118 penalty yards and Ray was sacked three times, waiting for plays to develop behind an offensive line that struggled to pick up the blitz.

Ray won six of nine home games with the Eskimos in 2011 and he’s had plenty of success at Rogers Centre the past few years (3-0 SU, 2-1 ATS) but the veteran quarterback will not be able to carry this team on his own. The porous O-line and a lack of playmakers concern us and until this offense proves they can function as a unit, we will continue to fade them in the early going.

Pick: Take the Stampeders
