The NHL second round playoffs have become quite the snoozefest until the playoffs hit Cowtown with Calgary Flames’ overtime victory over the Anaheim Ducks.
The Flames were manhandled in the first two games, but the hometown fans sea of red breathed life back into your team.
We asked bookmaker Frank Doyle of SportsInteraction.com on Totals betting in the playoffs.
“Betting the NHL playoffs is a completely different animal from the regular season, “said Doyle. “Generally speaking, the further along you get in the playoffs, the lower the totals. If you want to bet under right now it’ll take some guts with most totals set at 5 goals, especially when coaches are willing to pull their goaltenders early out of desperation.”
On the Stanley Cup futures, with betting favorites Montreal and New York facing elimination, we asked Doyle how the betting markets reacted?
“Most of the futures bets are going back to the West again with the Blackhawks and Ducks. Same old story there, really,” said Doyle.
“Chicago and Anaheim have been two of the best teams in the NHL for years, so bettors feel confident backing them now that they have a leg up in their respective series. The Blackhawks are our new Stanley Cup favorite at +240.”
