Our Champions League pick for this Tuesday night will see the first eliminations from the knockout stages of the Champions League as the second legs of the Real Madrid v Roma and Wolfsburg v Gent ties play out in Spain and Germany. The home sides in these second leg ties both have the advantage after scoring away goals and winning the first leg matches, but will the Italian and Belgian sides be able to stage a comeback at The Bernabeu and The Volkswagen Arena this evening?
We preview both of these Champions League clashes with online sportsbook 10Bet.com and provide our best Champions League picks.
Real Madrid v Roma: 1.38 – 5.10 – 7.50
Zinedine Zidane’s men come into this home leg of the last 16 stage of the Champions League holding a 2-0 lead after finding the net on 57 and 86 minutes in the first leg at the Stadio Olimpico as Cristiano Ronaldo and Jesé struck and found the net. They will be confident with this advantage, but after almost letting the same lead slip at this stage of the competition last time around as Schalke claimed a 4-3 win to see the Spanish giants edge through 5-4, but do Roma have what it takes to score enough goals to upset the odds and see off Real?
The 10Bet Real Madrid v Roma match odds do not suggest that the Italians can come back from this two goal deficit at The Bernabeu and although they have won two and drawn one of their four meetings with Real on this ground since 2001 they have not won by two clear goals in any of them. They have done the better of these two teams since the first leg as they have claimed three successive victories and have scored 12 goals, including beating Fiorentina 4-1 at the weekend, but following a draw away at Malaga and then losing 1-0 at home to Atlético Madrid the home side this Tuesday have scored ten goals in their last two matches.
Real will also be confident in their goal scoring ability on home soil as their last ten home matches have seen them score 52 goals, including failing to score against their local rivals, and with them conceding in seven of those matches and Roma needing to score goals if they are to stand any chance of making the Quarter Finals we see this being a match that sees 90 minutes of attacking football from both sides. As a result of this we are backing goals in the Spanish capital.
Champions League Picks: Our top Real Madrid v Roma tip is back Both Teams to Score – Yes and Over 2.5 goals to be scored at odds of 1.95 in the 10Bet Sportsbook!
Wolfsburg v Gent: 1.47 – 4.45 – 6.65
The first leg of this last 16 stage Champions League tie between the sides from Germany and Belgium was a thriller at the GHELAMCO-arena as the German side had all but secured their passage to the final eight stage by running into a three goal lead after an hour of the game, but after taking their foot off the gas late on they allowed Gent to get back into the game. The home side in that match netted on the 80th and 89th minutes of the game to leave the tie finely poised at 3-2 to Wolfsburg, but if Gent can hit the ground running at the Volkswagen Arena this Tuesday night they could easily see them upset the odds.
The Germans did not perform at their best following their win in Belgium as their next two matches saw them held by Hertha Berlin and lose to Bayern Munich, but six goals scored and just one conceded in their last two matches has seen them back on the winning trail and up to seventh in the Bundesliga. Key players Andre Schurrle and Julian Draxler have scored five of those six goals and they’ll be confident about continuing their impressive home form that has only see the German giants of Munich and Dortmund win on this ground in all competitions this season.
Gent followed up their loss to Wolfsburg with a heavy 5-2 loss away at KV Oostende before claiming a win and a draw on home soil before travelling to Germany for this match. They come into this match having lost four of their last five away games and were beaten in two of their three away Champions League group games but, just like Roma at The Bernabeu, they know that there is still a chance of progression and that they will have to go all out to secure their place in their first Champions League Quarter Final so we see another match that is filled with goals.
We do, however, feel that Wolfsburg’s excellent home record coming out on top and we’re backing the home side to move into the final eight sides in this season’s top European football competition.
