Reds vs. Braves Pick

  • by

Saturday, May 2nd – Cincinnati and Atlanta hook up for the third game of their four-game series. Looking at the series before it began, I’d circled this Saturday matchup as a possible “Reds vs. Braves Pick”; if it setup the way I wanted.

With everything else going on, it might be difficult to pay attention to a “mean-nothing” baseball game in early May.

Braves vs Reds Pick

Joey Votto is all smiles getting to face Eric Stults today

Right now I’m watching Game 2 of the Capitals-Rangers playoff series, surfing Kentucky Derby odds, reading up on the Mayweather-Pacquiao props and looking over the Game 7 matchup in LA between the Spurs and Clippers (Pinnacle Sports currently has the Clippers -2.5).

So yeah, I get that baseball is but a blip on the sports betting radar today, but like I said, on Wednesday I’d circled this Saturday matchup to keep an eye on.

With the Reds losing last night, giving up a lead in the process, I’m comfortable backing them for a unit to come back and grab a win.

I would have passed if the Reds had picked up wins in both of the first two games, but with the Friday loss, the pitching matchup and a good line, I’m in.

As always, the pitching matchup is one of the keys to handicapping a baseball matchup.

Atlanta sends starter Eric Stults to the mound. So far this year he’s given up 20 hits (10 earned runs) in 22.1 innings of work. He’s had 13 Ks over that span, sitting with a 1-1 record and 4.03 ERA.

Cincy gives the ball to Jason Marquis, who’s numbers have not been impressive early. In fact, they’ve been very “Stults” like, even a little worse (28 hits and 14 runs over 23 innings, 14 Ks for a 2-1 record and a 5.48 ERA).

But I like the Reds’ lineup vs. Stults. I’m looking for them to give Marquis enough support, as he manages vs. this Brave roster.

I’m going with the Cincinnati Reds -101 (at Pinnacle Sports)
