February – that’s the last time the San Antonio Spurs have lost back-to-back games.
Breaking down my Spurs at Clippers pick for Game 5, it’s hard to ignore how resilient this San Antonio team has been this season (and the last few years). Betting against them off a loss has never been a situation I’ve gone looking for; in fact, the exact opposite. I’m usually looking for good teams off losses.
Checking the current lines at TopBet Sports I see the home side are two-point favorites.
But this is a difficult setup for an aging Spurs team. They looked like a team starting to wear down in Game 4. Popovich is so good at monitoring minutes and trying to ensure his vets stay get the rest they need, but Tim Duncan played 44 minutes in Game 2 and while Tony Parker is getting stronger, he’s still nursing injuries.
They simply didn’t have an answer for Chris Paul in Game 4 and I see the Clippers continuing to exploit the clear advantage Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan give them upfront. They dominated the boards in Game 4 and should do so again in this one at home.
With the series tied 2-2 and coming back to Los Angeles, I see the home teams winning out. The Clippers can maintain the level they played at last game, stressing the Spurs up front and with Paul dominating, they’ll create issues for San Antonio.
I’m okay laying the bucket and playing on the home side to get the win and cover.
Los Angeles Clippers -2
