This is it – Super Bowl 50 is here and thank goodness because I can’t wait for the gold in all the NFL’s marketing to disappear and we get to go back to the roman numerals. Enough of my griping, the big game is here and this is the third third straight season the top seeds from each conference are tangling in the Super Bowl.

Peyton Manning is here for his fourth time at the Super Bowl while this Cam Newton’s first at the big dance. This is the first Super Bowl matchup between quarterbacks who were drafted No. 1 overall. The Sheriff (Manning’s nickname) is 13 years older than Newton and the Sheriff will be looking to stop the trend of quarterbacks making their Super Bowl debut winning four straight over quarterbacks with some Super Bowl experience.

Our playoff record is a paltry 4-5-1.

Super Bowl Pick

Denver Broncos +5.5 vs Carolina Panthers -5.5 Total 44.0

Line opened at -3.5 for the Carolina Panthers and the public money just piled onto the Panthers pushing the spread to -6.0. Then, the wise guys jumped in on the Denver Broncos side pushing the line down to +5.5. One report from a Nevada sportsbook had that 93% of the money in on the Panthers. As the weekend approaches, we expect the spread to be volatile.

Currently, betting public is behind the one loss Panthers with 72% support. However, the Broncos are 5-0 this season as the dog. Panthers as a favourite, covered 68% this season. There has been a lot of talk about the Panthers strength of schedule, but in their last 5 games, the Panthers are 4-1 against teams with .500 record or better. With all Super Bowls, it will come down to the team who can get over the nerves being in the big dance.

Pick: Denver Broncos, the Sheriff rides out in the sunset tipping his hat to the Broncos defense.
