EPL Picks: Derby Day Sunday!

EPL Picks

While there were seven thrilling and exciting matches played in the Premier League on Saturday the biggest and best action from round eight of the EPL happens this Sunday. Not only do we have the meeting of the two evenly matched Swansea and Tottenham Hotspur sides but we have the fieriest derby in the top flight in England in Everton v Liverpool with 20 red cards issued since the Premier League began in 1992 and a clash of two of the biggest sides in the league in Arsenal v Man United at The Emirates.

We preview this trio of games with online sportsbook Bet365.com and provide our best EPL picks on all three matches from this Super Sunday.

Everton v Liverpool: 2.70 – 3.40 – 3.00

Despite the fact that it has been five years and ten Merseyside derby matches since they last claimed victory against the old enemy from the red half of the city Everton come into this match sitting a point ahead of Liverpool after seven games of the season. They have lost just once this season, to high flying Manchester City, and bring a six game unbeaten run into this game in both league and Capital One Cup with the last win on home soil at Goodison Park seeing them run riot against Chelsea in a 3-1 win. They will have been boosted by their 3-2 win at West Brom last Monday too as they came from 2-0 down after 54 minutes to triumph with strikers Romelu Lukaku and Arouna KonΓ© bagging all three goals.

Liverpool are struggling to get over the line at the moment with just a single win in their last eight matches in Premier and Europa Leagues plus the League Cup where they were pushed to penalties by League Two Carlisle recently. They have lost just two of the other seven games in this run, so they will certainly push their hosts all the way this Sunday afternoon but we cannot see this side that is lacking in confidence and is seven games without a clean sheet getting anything from this match. We do see both of these sides finding the net in an entertaining clash on Merseyside.

Our top Merseyside Derby bet is back Everton to win and both teams to score at odds of 5.00 with Bet365.com.

Arsenal v Man United: 2.00 – 3.80 – 3.80

With the last four matches between Arsenal and Manchester United seeing the home side fail to secure all three points and The Gunners having lost three of their last five matches in all competitions they will be concerned about this recent trend in clashes with the side that starts this weekend atop the Premier League table. The biggest problem that the North Londoners are having comes at the back as their last five games in Capital One Cup and both Premier and Champions Leagues as they have conceded ten goals, including conceding three goals on home soil to Olympiakos on Tuesday night to lose their second successive game in Europe this season.

Things have gone better for the guests at The Emirates this Sunday in recent times as they bounced back from a 2-1 loss to PSV three weeks ago in the Champions League with four successive victories with 11 goals scored and just three conceded. Three goals from new signing Anthony Martial and the same from midfielder Juan Mata, coupled with two goals from Wayne Rooney, have seen Louis van Gaal’s men in excellent attacking form but with two goals conceded in each of their last three away games can they hold off The Gunners to take all three points?

We feel that this match could go either way, but we certainly see goals in this one and we’re putting our money on a thriller in North London.

Back both teams to score and +2.5 goals in the match @ 2.10 in the Bet365 Sportsbook.

Swansea v Tottenham: 2.75 – 3.30 – 2.80

Although the Bet365.com match odds suggest that this match will be a closely fought contest the guests at the Liberty Stadium will be concerned about where their goals will come from as new signing Son Heung-Min is out with a foot injury sustained in their 4-1 win over Manchester City. That was one of the most impressive performances by any side this season as the Londoners triumphed on home soil, but while that win moved Spurs into the top six in the league they have claimed just a single win on the road this season and they were held 1-1 at Monaco in the Europa League on Thursday night. They have beaten only bottom of the table Sunderland on their travels this season, but can they turn things around this Sunday evening?

Swansea have slumped in recent matches following a fantastic start to the season that saw three wins and two draws in their first five games in league and cup, but with three losses and a draw to their name in their last four fixtures that have seen just a single goal can they rediscover their form too? Their home form has seen wins against Newcastle and Manchester United in the league as well as York City in the Capital One Cup plus a draw with Everton sees them third in the home form table despite having a played a game fewer than the others above them and with three clean sheets this will be tough for Spurs to get a result.

Despite Tottenham do have the historical advantage against their hosts this weekend with seven successive victories, but we can see Swansea being more of a challenge thanks to their excellent form in Wales so far this season. We would not be surprised to see this match end level with both sides happy with a draw but we are taking a slight risk on backing the home side to emerge from their recent slump should either side take all three points.

Our top Swansea v Tottenham tip is back Swansea to win on the Draw No Bet market at odds of 1.80 at Bet365.
