NFL Week 15 Trends By Pick Sixty Sports

A couple pals from my handicapping circle were having a friendly discussion Sunday night during the Cowboys and Giants game. The conversation started with a familiar debate over parlays vs. teasers vs. flat bets — which was better? It then went onto the topic of line value. More precisely, an argument over the decision to pay for half-points or just take what the book is giving at the standard price of -110.

These convos are infinitely more interesting to me than some of the gossip I hear people having in the pubs I’ve spent the past 20 years working at. And don’t even get me started on the tables of people who just sit around staring at their phones…

Anyway, the conclusion is a personal choice. Bet with your own money and live with the consequences. But the underlying message is something we can all use a reminder of once in a while.

Two words. Bet smart.

If your idea of fun is stacking a handful of 3-game parlays, going to the bar and live-betting while you watch the game, that’s your choice. But you better make sure you’re writing those plays down and adding up the plus-minus at the end of each day or you have already fallen head first into the trap that books and casinos have been setting for decades.

Here is a look at some of early Week 15 NFL odds with trends that are helping shape the line.

WEEK TREND SETTER

The Tampa Bay Bucs are in Dallas this week and the opening line is Cowboys -7 and O/U 46. That total is likely going to increase, right alongside the rambles already spewing from Cowboy Nation calling for Tony Romo. The Bucs defense allows a 61.4 completion percentage this year and the Cowboys record at home against these type of teams leans to the over (63%), but it’s nothing compared to their ATS trend (4-16 ATS).

Titans at Chiefs (-5 and O/U 43) is another line to keep an eye on, opening in no man’s land. Kansas City is a legitimate threat to score on D and/or special teams every week and the Titans’ record since 2008 against clubs with top rated special teams is 3-14 ATS.

Sunday’s biggest line is San Francisco at Atlanta (-13 and O/U 51). Can the Falcons be stopped? Even without Julio Jones in the lineup, the Falcs are out hanging 40 burgers on the road vs. passing D’s ranked 16th. The Niners can’t even beat the Jets, but the past 13 road dogs getting this many points against a team who just scored 40-plus are 9-4 ATS (69%).
