Monday Night Football, NFL Picks: Green Bay Packers at Seattle Seahawks

  • by

NFL betting for the Week 3 Monday nighter is starting to flood toward the favorites but the odds maker at several sportsbooks refuse to move off the key number. We look at the matchups as the Seattle Seahawks turn up the lights vs. Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers

The Packers are 6-1 straight-up vs. the Seahawks since 2003, covering the spread at a 5-2 clip

Green Bay’s opening week loss vs. the 49ers was their first Week 1 setback since 2006 but four days later the Packers regrouped for a divisional win against the Bears. Seattle celebrated its home opener with a ‘W’ for the third-straight year under head coach Pete Carroll and the Seahawks have a divisional road game on-deck but first up is primetime showdown vs. a foe they have not won against since 2006 (0-3 SU/ATS).

WEEK 3 MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL PREVIEW

Green Bay’s offense struggled in the opening week loss to San Francisco and the defense couldn’t bail them out, allowing 183 rushing yards in a 30-22 loss. It was a continuance to a trend from 2011 where the Packers gave up 30-plus points in each of their final two home games.

In Week 2, Chicago’s offense was barreled over by an angry front seven and the Pack notched seven sacks while slashing the rushing yards-against in half (94). Seattle’s Marshawn Lynch will be a firm test for the Packers run-D and along with rookie QB Wilson and backup RB Turbin; the Hawks have to be thinking “run-first”.

Green Bay’s offense was third in the league for passing yards last season and they will challenge Seattle’s secondary but the run game could be the best way to take Seattle’s 12th man out of the game. Rodgers also needs his top targets to make plays when the gets the ball to them. His 213 passing yards last week was lower than all but one game in 2011, the road loss at Kansas City, and dropped balls were partly to blame.

NFL PICKS – PACKERS AT SEAHAWKS

Green Bay is 0-4 straight-up and 1-3 ATS during Monday night road games since Rodgers took over and part of the problem is the team failed to make adjustments. Green Bay outscored its opponents by 1.0 PPG in the first-half but was outscored by more than TD after the break (15.8-6.8). In 2011, Green Bay was third behind New Orleans and New England in second-half scoring and when playing away from home, the Pack was first overall with a 17.5 PPG average. Seattle is a good looking team who can only get better as the season goes on but right now, we think Green Bay is worthy of the road fave status.
