Pinnacle Sports Odds: Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial

  • by

19 of the top 50 players in the world make their way to Colonial Country Club in Ft. Worth, Texas and we breakdown the golf betting lineup with Pinnacle’s odds to win, first round and full tournament matchups along with top picks and tips

Toms (15-under) won the 2011 Crowne Plaza Invitational shooting 14-under on par 4 and par 5’s

David Toms (+2564) was last year’s winner at Colonial and online sportsbooks have him in a three-way tie with Hunter Mahan and Bo Van Pelt as the fifth overall favorites. Toms will pair with Sergio Garcia (+2948) and No. 1 favorite Zach Johnson (+1277), looking to improve his recent play around the green.

With just two top-10 finishes this season it’s tough to pace Toms ahead of Johnson or the other Pinnacle PGA odds leaders Matt Kuchar (+1468), Rickie Fowler (+1664) and Jason Dufner (+1847), but in the matchup vs. Mahan our play is on the LSU product.

Mahan has a pair of PGA Tour wins this season at the WGC Accenture (Feb. 26) and Shell Houston Open (Apr. 1) but he’s only played two sub-par rounds in his past three tournaments. Toms ranks second in driving accuracy, is reaching 67.3-percent greens in regulation (GIR) and last year at Colonial fired consecutive 62’s to set a new tour record through 36 holes.

PGA Tournament Matchups: Take Toms (-111) over Mahan

FIRST ROUND MATCHUPS AT COLONIAL

Kuchar (-117) vs. Fowler is one of the premier first round PGA matchups getting action with online sportsbooks and along with Dufner, this group will tee off at 1:18 pm ET Thursday.

Kuchar has five top 10 finishes this season and seven top 15 in his past eight starts while Fowler carries a streak of 12 consecutive rounds under par into this event. Kuchar’s (69.41) scoring average is second best overall and fifth best before the cut (69.52) but there could be more value playing Kuchar in a full tournament matchup.

The first round matchup we think offers value is Henrik Stenson (-111) over Brian Gay. Stenson’s driving accuracy (61.6-percent) and GIR (63.4-percent) have made huge strides over last year and putts per round at The Players ranked 13th overall (28.3). If Stenson can put this together he should be in great shape through 18 holes.

First Round Matchups: Take Stenson (-111) over Gay
